Will I have to pay taxes on a donation account for a benefit for myself?

My family is holding a benefit for me. My husband was killed in a car accident in october. I am on the verge of losing my house. my husband had no life insurance. I am not sure how to open a donation account. Will I have to claim the donations as earnings? And pay taxes?

Go talk to a local bank. That's how these are usually set up. They may qualify as gifts, because they do not qualify as charitable donations.

Anything that goes into the account will be a gift to you, not a tax deductible charitable contribution from the donor.
