New York Police Department asks for donation from phone?

I received a phone call from the police today and they told me to donate for cops who died in action. I refused and i told my mother. Then she told me that when we didnt pay, our cars always got wrecked on the streets. Anyone experienced this kind of problem before?

kentucky does it too! i told them i would but never sent n-e-thing i got the stickers though .............they come in handy when ya get pulled over

That is stupid! Your mom needs to get a clue and stop living in fear and paranoia!

um, kind of. Only the cops here try to sell us garbage bags.

Happy new year.

The Police NEVER call asking for donations. There ARE legitimate companies that call to raise money for Police related charities. Your mother is confused or lying. My guess is her car was damaged ONCE and it happened to occur after a time they had decided not to donate. She NEVER declined to donate again, so she has NO basis to say ANYTHING always happened.

I've often heard of these calls and were told that they are scams. Just trying to get money out of people by applying to their kind hearts.

It isn't the police who are actually calling you. They are lobbyists. I had this happen alot but with the fire department. I called my local fire department and they explained that the money that is donated goes to the lobbyist and they in turn are supposed to fight for new safety gear and regulations for the fire fighters, but that doesn't always happen. As we know it is a trade off business (lobbyists). Anyway, she said it didn't really pay to donate to them, if you want to donate the money to the police or whoever, it is best to do it locally.

Police don't ask for donations over the phone.

lord i hope not , it sounds like some mobster-kind of "protection scam " out of a bad movie. You should contact your local police department to make sure the call is legit to begin with , but as far a wrecking your cars go , ask a local newsstation if theyve ever heard of that happening before , most local stations have a crime report and things of that nature to research....

It is not a member of the NY police department. It is a member of a telephone marketing solicitor, and the police department will get no more than 10% of the total of the donations. Just tell them no, that you make your contributions to the pricinct that protects your neighborhood when they have a charity drive.

Tell them when they call that you refuse to donate unless they kiss you on all four cheeks.

This sounds like a scam report it.

scam alert .

corruption is killing our society.

Actually, it's not really the police who call. They are an agency that calls to get money on behalf of the police, and they try to make it sound like they are the police, but they are just telemarketers!!

I've had just one of those phone calls at each different house I've been in - just one b/c I always say "Please put me on the Do Not Call list" and they never call again -

NYPD are so busy - they aren't keeping track of who didn't donate (most people don't, btw)!!

That's a ludicrous statement. This type of scenario is called "protection racketeering" and is done by mobsters and criminals, not Police.
